There’s one name that every person in government and industry alike can’t stop saying this year: the Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE. The newly formed agency, which is meant to reduce waste and excise programs and initiatives across the federal landscape that it deems unnecessary, has big implications for the GovCon market.
On March 13, GovCon Wire tapped into all of the questions swirling around DOGE and hosted a webinar that brought industry representatives together to get a sense of what the department’s work and changes mean for GovCon and identify a path forward. The webinar—hosted by Procurement Sciences—drew thousands of participants, demonstrating the intense need for a place to talk through the new policies and directives.
GovCon industry members can continue the discussion at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2025 Digital Transformation Summit. This pivotal forum for all things government IT and tech modernization will host a panel session entitled “Adapting to DOGE: What Government Efficiency Reforms Mean for Contractors.” You’ll get a chance to engage with panelists in Q&A and hear from top leaders from both the public and private sector on the issue. Recent DOGE Contracting Developments
As you’re probably aware, with DOGE has ensued a series of developments that directly affect the GovCon community. However, The New York Times reports that the fuss over the contract cuts the department has executed are somewhat overblown. While they have resulted in the stocks of companies like Leidos and Booz Allen Hamilton being diminished in the short term, financial experts say that in the medium and long term, their prospects are good.
Additional NYT reporting shows that of the $754 billion in 2024 federal contracting spend, only $4 billion has been targeted and put on the chopping block by DOGE — a paltry less than one percent.
Historically, efforts like DOGE’s to curtail federal spending in past presidential administrations like those of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have ended up bolstering business for the industrial base, since the government’s programs and citizen services are expected to continue and the government now needs more help administering them.
