Joe Ayers Named VP of Broadcom’s VMware Federal Business

Joe Ayers, a longtime public sector technology sales executive, has been appointed vice president of Broadcom‘s VMware federal business, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Broadcom acquired virtualization and cloud software provider VMware in late 2023 for approximately $61 billion.

Ayers, a two-time Wash100 Award recipient, stepped into the role in June after more than two years leading the U.S. public sector business at semiconductor maker AMD, which he joined in March 2024. 

What Experience Does Joe Ayers Bring to Broadcom?

Ayers joined Broadcom with over 20 years of leadership experience in government and enterprise technology sales, backed by nearly a decade of military service. Before AMD, he spent nearly 11 years at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, concluding his tenure as vice president and general manager of the company’s U.S. industries business, which supports major American companies in financial services, manufacturing, retail, insurance, healthcare and life sciences.

Earlier at HPE, he served for over seven years as vice president and general manager of the U.S. public sector within the company’s enterprise group. In that capacity, he led a team of more than 200 personnel supporting federal, state and local government; K-12 and higher education customers; and federal systems integrators. According to his LinkedIn profile, the organization’s annual revenue more than doubled under his leadership. 

Ayers began his industry career at Dell, where he worked for more than 13 years as vice president and general manager of U.S. federal business.

Before entering the private sector, he served eight years as a U.S. Army officer and aviator rated in the Huey, Cobra and Apache helicopters. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering and industrial management.
