Gary Slack
Gary Slack, former president and chief operating officer of QinetiQ North America, has been appointed president and chief executive at Tysons, Virginia-based government services contractor XLA.
The more than 30-year GovCon veteran will be responsible for implementing the company’s growth strategies and succeeds founder and former CEO Lloyd Mustin, who will transition to a new role as chairman of the board of directors, XLA said Thursday.
Slack joined QNA in August 2012 as executive vice president and chief financial officer and was promoted to the roles of president and COO in April 2013.
He oversaw day-to-day operations at QNA over the past two years and guided the defense technology firm through the sale of its services group in 2014 to The SI Organization, which rebranded itself as Vencore following the deal’s completion.
Before that, Slack held a 13-year career at BAE Systems, where he was most recently president of BAE’s U.S. combat systems business and led operations involving more than 9, 000 employees across 16 states.
He also worked as group finance director at TRW‘s systems and information technology group and also held positions at BDM International, Honeywell‘s (NYSE: HON) federal systems business and the Virginia Department of Taxation.
