What Is Akima?

Akima is a government contracting firm that delivers mission-focused platforms across IT; aerospace; training and readiness; protective services; facilities and ground logistics; systems engineering; mission support; furniture, fixtures and equipment; and construction. A subsidiary of Alaska Native Corporation NANA, the company has over 11,000 employees supporting federal customers.

Teegardin’s appointment adds to a series of leadership changes at Akima this year. In February, the company named Marcus Lopez chief operating officer and appointed Lauren Cates as VP of business development for its emerging markets group.

Akima holds positions on several major federal contract vehicles. The company has won a spot on the U.S. Air Force’s 10-year, $7 billion contract to provide contract field team labor augmentation support services and is positioned to compete for work under the Missile Defense Agency’s 10-year, $151 billion Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense contract vehicle. Its subsidiary Akima Global Logistics was among eight companies selected for State Department facility operations and maintenance contracts valued at up to $2.7 billion.

Another subsidiary, Pinnacle Solutions, received a potential $369 million delivery order from the Air Force to design, develop and deliver the T-7A Maintenance Training System.
