BWXT said Tuesday the company has begun producing fuel for the program, which is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
The project involves manufacturing and delivering naval nuclear reactor fuel for the service branch’s submarines, including the Ohio-, Virginia-, Seawolf-, Columbia- and Los Angeles-class vessels. NFS will also supply fuel for the Nimitz- and Ford-class aircraft carriers.
“Naval Reactors is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and BWXT remains committed to providing our customer with the highest-quality components and support activities for many years to come,” said Sharon Smoot, president of BWXT Nuclear Operations Group.
