Raytheon’s missiles and defense subsidiary will be the principal contractor on the proposed National Advanced Surface-To-Air Missile System sale, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.
Key NASAMS elements include the Raytheon-made Sentinel radar and the Kongsberg-built Fire Distribution Center. The system is designed to fire the short-range air-to-air missile AIM-9X and the extended-range variant of the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile.
DSCA noted “an urgent need” in Ukraine to deploy the system for defending people and infrastructure assets against Russia’s missile strikes and aircraft threats.
The sale will include tool kits, test and support equipment, spare parts, technical documentation, logistics and program support.
