Raytheon Wins $354M Army Contract to Build More LTAMDS Radar Prototypes

Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) will manufacture additional prototypes of the U.S. Army’s Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor under a three-year, $353.9 million contract.

The military branch received two bids for the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract and obligated $104.8 million at the time of award, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

LTAMDS is an active electronically scanned array designed with Raytheon-made gallium nitride technology and intended to eventually replace the Army’s Patriot radar system.

Raytheon won a $384 million other transaction agreement in October 2019 for the production and delivery of six LTAMDS representative units to the Army.

The branch received the first system, built by Raytheon Missiles & Defense, three months ago. The LTAMDS is the first sensor in the company’s GhostEye family of radars.

Work under the follow-on contract is expected to be complete by May 1, 2025.
