Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) has secured a potential $3.2 billion contract to build a family of radars designed to help the U.S. Navy defend against hostile aircraft and various missile threats.
The company said Thursday it will manufacture SPY-6 hardware in solid-state, rotating and fixed-face variants for installation on seven types of Navy ships.
Vessels to be equipped with the radar system include the service branch’s Arleigh Burke-class Flight III destroyers, aircraft carriers and amphibious ships.
The contract has a base value of $651 million and options worth up to $2.5 billion.
In a separate notice, the Department of Defense said it expects the initial performance period to conclude by November 2025 and the company would continue services through June 2028 if all options are exercised.
Variants of the SPY-6 incorporate between nine and 37 radar modular assemblies, Raytheon noted.
