Margaret Dean
Margaret Dean, a 26-year U.S. Navy veteran and formerly strategic adviser for the asymmetric operations sector at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, has assumed new roles as chief government relations officer and secretary of the board of managers at APL.
She succeeds Tim Collins, who now serves as president of Walsh University, and is responsible for connecting APL’s portfolio with senior government officials focused on space and national security matters, the research organization said Monday.
Dean previously worked as a professional staff member for the House Armed Services Committee’s readiness subcommittee from November 2015 to January 2019 and a Navy Reserve officer with responsibility over operations and training at the service branch’s Military Sealift Command.
She joined APL in 2006 as section supervisor and project manager within the lab’s AOS and communication and networking systems group, then left in 2015 to work at the Capitol Hill.
In her more recent role, she led an engineering team who was developing tactical network concepts for the U.S. Army.
