A report by consulting firm McAleese & Associates says the total U.S. Army budget request for fiscal year 2020 is approximately $182B.
The services proposed FY 2020 budget includes $12.4B in research, development, test and evaluation funds, reflecting the services focus on eight Army Future Commands cross functional teams in charge of several programs such as next-generation combat vehicle, future vertical lift, long-range precision fires and network, Jim McAleese, founder and principal at McAleese & Associates, wrote in the report.
McAleese, a 2019 Wash100 winner, enumerated Army programs that are considered big winners in the spending plan: future attack reconnaissance aircraft; long range hypersonic weapon; high energy lasers; optionally manned fighting vehicle; precision strike missile; lower tier air missile defense sensor; and robotic combat vehicle.
Aircraft procurement efforts would get $4.1B in FY 2020 funds, while weapons and tracked combat vehicles programs would receive $5.1B.
The budget request includes $4.6B in FY 2020 funds to support the procurement of missile systems such as Hellfire; Mobile Short-Range Air Defense; Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System; and Army Tactical Missile System.
McAleese noted the Army requested $71.8B in total FY 2020 budget for operations and maintenance funds; $63.4B in military personnel appropriations; and $2.8B for ammunition procurement.
