The State Department has approved foreign military sales agreements worth approximately $8.6 billion combined with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Morocco.
Saudi Arabia requested to buy 48 Boeing-built (NYSE: BA) CH-47F Chinook helicopters, aircraft engines, GPS inertial navigation platforms, machine guns and common missile warning systems from the U.S. government under a potential $3.51 billion FMS contract, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Thursday.
Boeing and Honeywell‘s (NYSE: HON) aerospace business will act as principal contractors for the transaction, which seeks to help Saudi Arabia deter regional threats and support homeland defense efforts.
UAE asked to purchase Boeing-made Apache AH-64E helicopters and related services for approximately $3.51 billion in order to ensure security of its critical infrastructure.
Qatar also requested to procure logistics support and related equipment for its eight Boeing-made C-17 Globemaster III aircraft under a potential $700 million contract as well as spare engines and related support for its C-17s through a separate transaction valued at $81 million.
Boeing will serve as the prime contractor for both deals with Qatar.
The department also cleared Moroccos request to buy $108 million in Raytheon-built TOW 2A missiles and technical services from the U.S. government in support of efforts to build up the countrys ground defense capability.
