Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer at SpaceX and a 2019 Wash100 award winner, said the company sees the U.S. Army as a potential client for its Starship space vehicle and Starlink satellite constellation, SpaceNews reported Wednesday.
Were talking to the Army about Starlink and Starship, Shotwell told the publication.
She explained the companys interest in reusable rockets during a panel at the Association of the U.S. Armys annual conference.
It is important that these systems be reusable, Shotwell said. I think thats a bad learning experience. ¦ Youre polluting the oceans, and it seems like a waste of money.
The report said SpaceX is developing Starship and the Super Heavy rocket as a reusable transportation platform to transport astronauts and cargo to the lunar surface, Earth orbit and Mars.
Army officials said at the AUSA conference that they are eyeing commercial constellations in low-Earth orbit to meet the service branchs needs for lower latency communications.
