The U.S. Navy will receive the aircraft by the end of 2016 and Australia’s air force will also acquire 12 Growler jets that the country asked for in July 2013, the Navy said Monday.
The F/A-18 Super Hornet and its EA-18G Growler is built to work during all missions, including fighter escort, reconnaissance, aerial refueling, close-air support and precision strikes day or night.
âThe Navyâs long-range strike fighter procurement strategy is to have a mix of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and F-35 Lightning IIs by the early-2020s, â said Capt. Frank Morley, PMA-265 program manager.
âWe will operate F/A-18 E/F and F-35 aircraft together from our aircraft carriers through the 2030s.â
Countries such as Canada, Spain, Finland, Kuwait, Malaysia, Switzerland have requested the aircraft.
