Cypress International Names Retired Army Gen. Andrew Poppas CEO

  • Retired Army Gen. Andrew Poppas has joined Cypress International as CEO
  • The former FORSCOM commander brings decades of military leadership experience
  • The appointment supports the firm’s defense advisory and strategic consulting capabilities

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Andrew Poppas has been appointed as chief executive officer at Cypress International, according to the company’s LinkedIn post on Tuesday.

Poppas, who assumed the role on Monday, will lead the Alexandria, Virginia-based consulting firm’s work delivering defense advisory, acquisition, program planning and strategic support services to clients across the national security market.

What Experience Does Andrew Poppas Bring to Cypress?

Poppas retired from the Army in February after more than 37 years of service. He most recently served as commanding general of Army Forces Command, overseeing more than 725,000 soldiers and civilians and an annual budget of approximately $4.1 billion.

Before leading FORSCOM, Poppas served as director of the Joint Staff and director for operations, roles focused on global missions, strategic integration and support to senior defense leadership.

He also commanded the 101st Airborne Division.

A West Point graduate, Poppas holds a master’s degree from Kansas State University and has completed advanced senior-level military studies, including a Harvard University fellowship.

How Will Poppas Lead the Company?

“His experience leading large, complex organizations, managing risk in dynamic environments, driving transformation at scale, and prioritizing the welfare and development of people, positions him well to lead Cypress International into its next chapter,” the company wrote.

Cypress International provides advisory services to companies working with the Department of War and other federal agencies. The firm supports business development, acquisition strategy, program planning, budget analysis and defense market assessments.

What Recent Leadership Moves Has Cypress Made?

Poppas’ appointment follows other recent leadership changes at Cypress. In April, the company named retired Air Force Col. Jim Travis vice president of Air Force programs.

Travis is responsible for aligning operational needs, acquisition approaches and budget planning to help industry partners support Air Force modernization initiatives.
