The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, or NNSA, has issued a request for proposals for a potential $61.5 billion contract to manage and operate the Savannah River Site, or SRS.
What Is the Scope of the Savannah River Site M&O Contract?
The department said Friday that NNSA intends to award a standalone, performance-based management and operations contract for SRS. The current contract with Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, a Fluor-led joint venture, is set to expire on Sept. 30, with one remaining 12-month option period extending through Sept. 30, 2027.
The RFP follows NNSA’s January announcement of plans to recompete a potential 20-year, $36 billion follow-on contract for Savannah River Site M&O services, covering comprehensive site support functions necessary to advance NNSA and national security missions at SRS.
Work under the new contract may include infrastructure maintenance, IT and cybersecurity operations, and human resources management. It could also involve emergency preparedness, safety and security, environmental and waste programs, and purchasing and other administrative activities.
What Is the Contract Structure?
The planned award includes a five-year base term, which will begin after a four-month transition period. It features six option periods: a five-year option, a three-year option, three two-year options and a one-year option. If all are exercised, the total period of performance would be 20 years and four months.
