Northrop, Raytheon Book Additional MDA Funds for Glide Phase Intercept Tech Development Work

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) and Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) have secured other transaction prototype agreement modifications to extend the companies’ technology development services under the Missile Defense Agency’s Glide Phase Interceptor program.

The additional funds would allow the contractors to fine-tune GPI concepts, as part of a hypersonic defense program, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.

Work is scheduled to run through March 2024.

The modifications are valued at $88.7 million for Raytheon and $83.7 million for Northrop, bringing the total value of their OTAs to $241.5 million and $239.4 million, respectively.

Both companies previously received OTA modifications for the program’s materiel solutions analysis phase.

MDA intends for the interceptor technology to operate with the updated Baseline 9 Aegis weapon system and be capable of launching from the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense destroyer.
