The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory has begun soliciting proposals on 16 optical science disciplines, including the development of 3D printed materials, optic devices and system algorithms.
NRL said in a notice posted Saturday on SAM.gov the contracting effort will have an ordering period of five years and will be conducted using a full and open competition.
Other functional areas listed in the solicitation include advanced methods to fabricate glass preforms, transparent ceramics and optical fibers, chemical sensing and aircraft test platform support.
The government is looking for contractors with experience in conducting experiments related to optical science and capable of functioning within NRL’s existing laboratory capabilities.
Responses to the request for proposals are due Feb. 14.
