State Department OKs Japan’s $293M Purchase Request for AIM-120 Missiles

The State Department has approved the request of the Japanese government to acquire advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles and related equipment under a potential $293 million foreign military sales agreement.

Raytheon Technologies‘ (NYSE: RTX) missile systems business will serve as the principal contractor for the possible FMS covering 150 AIM-120C-7/C-8 AMRAAMs, three AIM-120 AMRAAM guidance sections as well as related missile components and support services, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Monday.

Japan seeks to further strengthen its military capability to defend against current and future threats with help from the FMS items. AMRAAMs are already part of the country’s inventory and are used by its armed forces.

Aside from Japan, Kuwait has also recently received a U.S. government approval to purchase AIM-120 missiles for its Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft fleet.
