US Greenlights $997M AH-1Z Attack Helicopter Sale Deal for Nigeria

The State Department has approved a potential $997 million foreign military sale of 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters, manufactured by Textron‘s (NYSE: TXT) Bell subsidiary, and associated equipment to Nigeria.

The proposed deal will include 28 T-700 401C engines from General Electric (NYSE: GE), 2,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System guidance sections, night vision imaging and electronic warfare systems, a 20mm machine gun and commercial GPS with Standard Positioning Service, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.

DSCA added the transaction will allocate $25M of case funds for institutional and technical services to the Nigerian military’s Air Ground Integration program and will require U.S. government and contractor personnel to perform support in the African country over a five-year period.

The AH-1Z helicopter is designed for air and ground fire support missions and equipped with anti-armor and air-to-air missiles as well as sensor-powered aerial reconnaissance capabilities.
