Steve Moore, chief security strategist at Exabeam and host of “The New CISO” podcast, said government agencies looking to support frontline security professionals and protect credentials from threat actors as computing resources transition to the cloud during the COVID-19 pandemic should consider adopting machine learning.
“With agencies operating in a complex mix of cloud and on-premises environments, it can be difficult to understand what’s going on and, more important, what’s normal and what’s abnormal,” Moore wrote.
“Machine learning through modeling allows agencies to answer those questions more quickly, more efficiently and with a higher degree of confidence than humans can.”
He discussed how Exabeam uses machine learning to monitor individuals’ network activity and help detect compromised credentials.
Moore also mentioned the internal risk posed by overconfidence when it comes to cyber threat detection and response and the need for agencies to establish stronger security teams by addressing employee turnover.
“Leaders need to talk to employees about their concerns and establish clear goals and opportunities for advancement. They should begin today so they can build strong teams that will help agencies tackle the complex challenges of a rapidly evolving security landscape,”
