Fincantieri Subsidiary Wins Potential $5.6B Navy FFG(X) Frigate Design, Construction Contract

A Wisconsin-based subsidiary of Fincantieri has won a potential 15-year, $5.6B contract from the U.S. Navy to design and build up to 10 guided-missile frigates.

Fincantieri Marinette Marine will also provide engineering, post-delivery availability, training equipment and crew familiarization support services to the FFG(X) program, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

Naval Sea Systems Command received four offers for the fixed-price incentive contract, which has a base value of $795.1M and covers engineering and class services.

The FFG(X) ship is intended to support the National Defense Strategy by providing the service with multimission capability to carry out anti-submarine warfare, electronic warfare, air warfare, surface warfare and information operations.

The Navy will obligate $795.1M in shipbuilding and conversion funds for fiscal 2020 at the time of award and expects work to occur at multiple locations across the U.S. through May 2035 if all options are exercised.

Fincantieri Marinette Marine was one of the five companies selected by the Navy in 2018 to come up with a conceptual design of the FFG(X) frigate.
