The Department of Defense plans to release in November a draft solicitation notice for 5G connectivity prototypes that will be tested in large-scale experiments.
DoD said Wednesday it will provide descriptions of four military facilities that could host 5G tests through the upcoming draft RFP and seeks to encourage interested vendors to submit input before the release of the final solicitation.
The Pentagon expects to release the finalized document by December, but the department noted the timing of issuance will depend on fiscal 2020 defense appropriations bill’s approval.
According to DoD, the effort’s initial phase will cover the development of a 5G demonstration testbed, augmented and virtual reality for training and smart warehouses for 5G-related logistics.
The department plans to host an industry event on the initiative before the final RFP is released.
