Mike Riemer, senior vice president of the network security group and field chief information security officer at Ivanti, said government agencies need a unified, autonomous platform that could help them manage endpoints and patches to strengthen network security and accelerate remediation of vulnerabilities.

“When all devices are secured and managed appropriately by a single vendor’s solution, communication is orchestrated to the endpoints without creating gaps in security, and the user experience is consistent across all types of devices,” Riemer wrote in an article published on Carahsoft.com.

Riemer said a consistent approach to managing endpoints and patches builds stronger networks by improving visibility and consistency. He noted that endpoint management tools track which devices connect to a network and which applications run on them, checking whether those applications and operating systems stay current and identifying who is using each device or app.

He added that agencies relying on multiple disconnected tools risk gaps that threat actors could exploit, while a single integrated solution helps close those openings.

What Is a Ring Deployment Model?

A ring deployment model, according to Riemer, is a phased approach that rolls patches out in stages rather than all at once. He explained that agencies could start by applying patches to a small set of non-critical systems or those in a non-production setting. Once those systems perform well, IT teams could extend the rollout to progressively larger groups of devices, with edge devices covered in the final stage.

Riemer said this staged method gives IT teams a chance to catch and resolve problems early, which limits the risk of widespread downtime.

How Does Ivanti Neurons Help Agencies Automate Endpoint & Patch Management?

Platforms like Ivanti Neurons pair autonomous endpoint management with patch management in a single system, Riemer said. He noted that the platform gives IT administrators a straightforward interface to discover, configure and secure every device connected to a network, which allows them to enforce policies and access privileges proactively across the environment.

Riemer added that Ivanti’s patch management solution also works alongside Microsoft’s Intune endpoint management offering to give agencies added flexibility.

He said Ivanti recently brought agentic artificial intelligence into the Neurons for ITSM platform, giving administrators a more conversational way to manage security workflows. Riemer noted that these AI-driven tools help simplify and speed up complex processes.

“Automation gives IT professionals the confidence that any change or modification they make will cover the entire implementation base simultaneously,” Riemer wrote.
