NASA has awarded 14 companies contracts worth approximately $43.2M combined to develop technologies for the space agencys lunar and Mars exploration programs.
The agency said Saturday the proposals were selected under the fourth solicitation for the Tipping Point program and address cryogenic propellant management and production, advanced avionics, rover mobility, sustainable energy generation, autonomous operations, propulsion systems and storage and distribution tech areas.

NASAs space technology mission directorate will make milestone payments to each awardee under firm-fixed-price contracts, which have a performance period of up to three years. Each award recipient will shoulder a minimum percentage of the projects total cost as part of the partnership with the agency.
The agencys Artemis program aims to launch new scientific instruments and tech demonstrations, transport astronauts to the moon by 2024 and establish a sustainable lunar presence by 2028. NASA will build on the Artemis program to support its Mars exploration mission.
