Keith Salisbury, vice president for federal business at Pivotal Software (NYSE: PVTL), has said government agencies should adopt a rapid and modern approach to software development in order to build and deploy applications within days and immediately execute their missions.
Salisbury wrote that agency leaders should assess if they consider the ability to create modern software as a strategic asset and whether they have the internal capacity for modern software development.
œWith no internal capacity, however, agencies are now struggling to provide vision and direction, as well as governance and oversight, for modern software development, he said.
He noted that software development demands policy, culture and people transformation and that having an internal capability to field modern software could help agencies integrate artificial intelligence, machine learning and other technologies into applications.
Salisbury also pointed out the difference between legacy and cloud-native apps and urged agencies to update some components of legacy apps to help streamline their operations in cloud environments.
