Google Strikes $32B All-Cash Deal for Wiz

Google has agreed to buy cloud security company Wiz in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $32 billion.

Google said Tuesday Wiz will be part of Google Cloud upon the acquisition’s completion, which is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

Accelerating Trends in the AI Era

The proposed transaction reflects Google Cloud’s investment in efforts to achieve improved cloud security and enhance the ability to use multicloud platforms — two major trends in the era of artificial intelligence.

“Google Cloud and Wiz share a joint vision to make cybersecurity more accessible and simpler to use for organizations of any size and industry. Enabling more companies to prevent cyber attacks, including in very complex business software environments, will help organizations minimize the cost, disruption and hassle caused by cybersecurity incidents,” said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.

Assaf Rappaport, co-founder and CEO of Wiz, said the company and Google are committed to continuing to safeguard customers across major cloud platforms.

“This is an exciting moment for our company, but an even more important one for customers and partners, as this acquisition will bolster our mission to improve security and prevent breaches by providing additional resources and deep AI expertise,” Rappaport added.

Strengthening Multicloud Cybersecurity

In a blog post published Wednesday, Kurian said the transaction will promote the adoption of multicloud cybersecurity, drive competition and growth in cloud computing, and advance the use of multi-cloud platforms.

According to the chief executive, the combination of Google Cloud and Wiz will enable the two companies to provide customers with a unified security platform, threat intelligence capabilities and protection against emerging threats due to the rapid adoption of AI.

What Does Wiz Do?

Founded in 2020, New York-based Wiz provides a security platform that links all major clouds and code environments to help large enterprises, startups, government agencies and public sector organizations prevent cybersecurity incidents.

The company’s offerings include Cloud-Native Application Protection Platform, or CNAPP, and Wiz for Government.

Wiz CNAPP is a cloud-native security platform designed to enable security and development teams to rapidly identify and eliminate critical risks in cloud environments.

Wiz for Government is a FedRAMP Moderate-authorized cloud security platform meant to help government agencies accelerate zero trust adoption by providing them with continuous risk reduction, full stack visibility and compliance reporting capability in the cloud.
