State Department OKs Australian Request for Tomahawk Weapon System Support

The State Department has approved a potential foreign military sale to the government of Australia involving services and equipment in support of the Tomahawk weapon system.

The possible transaction, worth approximately $250 million, covers engineering, material and program support; the management of technical data; and general weapon support services, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

The potential sale is expected to enhance U.S.-Australia interoperability, contribute to joint weapon technology development and implementation and help Australia better use the Tomahawk system, which it is acquiring.

The government of Australia will determine the principal contractor when it identifies its requirements for weapon support.

Congress has been notified by DSCA of the potential FMS.
