Pat Gelsinger, CEO of virtualization software provider VMware (NYSE: VMW) since September 2012 and a four-decade technology industry veteran, has been appointed by the board of directors at Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) to serve as the chipmaker's CEO effective Feb. 15. He will succeed Bob Swan, who has led Intel since January 2019, the company said Wednesday.
