GovCon Expert Kim Koster: Leveraging the Power of AI Starts With These 7 Data Fundamentals

In December 2023, Kim Koster laid out seven data fundamentals that the GovCon industry can utilize to leverage the power of artificial intelligence. As a GovCon expert who delves into digital products, she finds it pivotal to understand and apply AI in all its iterations.

The seven fundamental data elements outline Kim Koster’s strategic vision to help government contractors like Unanet integrate AI into enterprise-wide operations.

  1. Treat data like your most valuable asset—protect and refine it.
  2. Integrate systems of record for people, projects, opportunities, and financials.
  3. Create a secure data lake that your AI and analytics tools can access.
  4. Establish and follow data processes and procedures.
  5. Instill discipline to enforce process adherence.
  6. Proactively use digital forms and automated workflows.
  7. Don’t be afraid of unstructured data.

When used correctly, AI should help GovCon companies get comprehensive data that can improve their objective-based decision-making processes. It prevents lost revenue, subpar outcomes, and decreased profits caused by data errors and discrepancies. Moreover, this saves the organization plenty of time in generating and validating reports from the data.
