Raytheon Secures $966M MDA Contract Modifications for AN/TPY-2 Radar Support

Raytheon, an RTX business, has received two contract modifications with a total value of $966.7 million from the Missile Defense Agency to support continued development and sustainment of the Army Navy Transportable Radar Surveillance Control Model-2, or AN/TPY-2, system.

What Is the Scope of the $773.5M Modification?

The Department of War said Thursday the larger of the two awards is a $773.5 million noncompetitive modification to a previously awarded indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity radar development contract. Under this agreement, the company will provide research and development support for the AN/TPY-2 system.

What Does the $193.2M Modification Cover?

Separately, the company was awarded a $193.2 million noncompetitive, hybrid contract action for work on a specific task order under the same radar development vehicle. This funding is designated for spares replenishment and the continuation of AN/TPY-2 development support. The hybrid structure of this modification includes firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, and cost-plus-award-fee elements.

What Is the AN/TPY-2?

The AN/TPY-2 is a high-resolution missile defense radar that utilizes X-band frequencies to identify, monitor and distinguish ballistic threats across various stages of flight. Raytheon has continued to advance the system’s capabilities, including the delivery of a Gallium Nitride-equipped radar in 2025 that enhanced sensitivity, surveillance capacity and operational range.

The platform also remains a central element of ongoing sustainment and engineering efforts, including a $900 million contract modification for operations and sustainment services and a $191.1 million deal for modeling and simulation services.
