Pratt & Whitney to Produce More F-35 Propulsion Systems With $4.4B Award

The Naval Air Systems Command has awarded Pratt and Whitney a $4.38 billion contract modification to manufacture engines for the U.S. military’s 15th and 16th F-35 production lots.

The Raytheon Technologies-owned (NYSE: RTX) engine builder will provide a total of 152 F135-PW-100 turbofans to the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, the Department of Defense said Monday.

USMC additionally ordered 26 F135-PW-600 systems.

Pratt & Whitney will also obtain long lead-time items needed to make propulsion systems for non-DOD participants and foreign military sales clients in the Joint Strike Fighter program.

The undefinitized modification also covers the development of an engine for Block 4 short-takeoff-and-vertical landing aircraft flight tests.

Domestic and international defense customers will obligate $2.9 billion in total funds on the award.
