The Department of Defense‘s rapid reaction technology office is inviting companies to propose technology platforms that could address joint mission capability requirements by 2028 in areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, hypersonics and 5G.
DOD is interested in innovations that are ready to undergo maturation projects and have reached the Technology Readiness Level 3 for proof-of-concept demonstration or the TRL 4 laboratory validation phase, according to a SAM notice posted Wednesday.
Other tech modernization areas listed in the department’s 2021 Global Needs Statement are autonomy, biotechnology, cyber, directed energy, fully networked command, communication and control, microelectronics, quantum and space.
Vendors can apply until April 21 to pitch technical ideas to government representatives at a virtual meeting this fall. The department noted it could select companies to prototype, demonstrate or experiment with proposed systems.
