The U.S. Coast Guard is looking for potential sources of cutter boats in an effort to expand its primary cutter fleet for surface prosecution activities over the next 10 years.
The Coast Guard said Aug. 14 it seeks over-the-horizon cutter boats that can carry a maximum of 13 people and have speeds of up to 42 knots in distances ranging from 150 to 200 nautical miles.
OTH-V will be used for a range of applications including search and rescue, illegal migrant interdiction, coastal security, drug seizure and defense readiness.
Interested proposers must compete for the program’s first phase ahead of the Coast Guard’s downselection of up to four participants for demonstration activities.
The final awardee in the second phase will proceed to manufacturing the winning cutter boat concept beginning in 2023. USCG expects to production work to cover 12 to 24 of the proposed vessels annually, according to the notice.
