Sabel Systems has appointed retired Air Force Col. Robert Epstein as chief strategy and mission architect for the Department of the Air Force, the Beavercreek, Ohio-based company said Monday.
What Experience Does Epstein Bring to Sabel?
Epstein has more than three decades of experience in defense innovation, digital transformation and multi-domain operations. His experience spans multi-domain operations, electronic warfare, modeling and simulation, training systems and command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or C4ISR, modernization.
Most recently, he served as a senior solution architect at Leidos, leading Air Force and Space Force capture efforts and supporting the integration of artificial intelligence, automation and digital engineering technologies. He previously led the Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation, advancing training readiness and interoperability. His military career also included leadership of the 36th Electronic Warfare Squadron and service as an Air Force One advance agent.
What Did the Sabel Systems CEO Say About the Appointment?
Sabel President and CEO Shawn Purvis, a four-time Wash100 Award winner, said Epstein’s appointment reflects the company’s commitment to advancing Air Force modernization and digital engineering technologies.
“His rare combination of operational command experience, deep technical expertise across MS&T, C4ISR, and AI-enabled systems, and proven record of driving transformation at scale directly accelerates our ability to deliver the solutions our customers need most.”
Epstein’s appointment comes as Sabel continues to expand its digital engineering and defense technology capabilities. Over the past year, the company launched Sabel Digital Labs to advance digital engineering, sustainment, acquisition and operations initiatives. It also acquired Centil to strengthen its digital engineering offerings and support defense and space missions, named John Cunningham chief growth officer and added industry veterans Tina Dolph and Blake Larson to its board of directors.
