SOSi has secured a potential $875 million contract from the Department of Justice to provide interpretation and language support services for the Executive Office for Immigration Review.
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, awarded by DOJ’s Justice Management Division, supports immigration court operations nationwide, according to a notice posted on SAM.gov Tuesday. Work locations and funding will be determined at the task order level.
What Does the SOSi-DOJ Contract Cover?
Under the award, SOSi will deliver on-site interpretation, video remote interpretation, telephonic interpretation, written translation and computer-aided real-time transcription services.
The work is intended to supplement EOIR’s in-house interpreter workforce and ensure language access during immigration hearings, appellate reviews and other immigration-related proceedings.
According to the request for proposals for the support services, the contractor must support court operations that handle millions of cases annually, including proceedings that require interpretation into Spanish and into uncommon and rare languages.
The contract, which has a one-year base period and six one-year option periods, calls for rapid response capabilities and compliance with DOJ performance, security and quality standards.
The award follows a previous EOIR language services contract awarded to SOSi in 2020, when the company received a potential $400 million agreement to provide translation and transcription services for immigration proceedings.
What Is the Role of EOIR?
EOIR oversees the Justice Department’s federal immigration adjudication system. Its responsibilities include conducting administrative hearings and appellate reviews related to immigration cases.
The office comprises three components: the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge, the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer.
