He will succeed Michael Roman, who will transition to the role of executive chairman of the board at 3M in May, the company said Tuesday.
Roman has been with 3M for more than 35 years and has served as CEO of the conglomerate since July 2018.
“[Brown] brings a wealth of experience in strategic leadership, innovation, and operational excellence to 3M. I look forward to working with him to build on our momentum in my new role as executive chairman,” Roman said.
Brown, a previous Wash100 awardee, served as chairman, president and CEO of Harris Corp. before it merged with L3 Technologies in 2019.
The former chair of the Aerospace Industries Association held various leadership positions during his 14-year tenure at United Technologies Corp.
