NASA Awards 5 Subsonic Aircraft Risk Reduction Contracts

Five companies have been awarded contracts to help NASA identify strategies to reduce the risk and cost of a potential future demonstration of subsonic transport aircraft technologies.

The agency chose Boeing (NYSE: BA), Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTN), General Electric (NYSE: GE), Blended Wing Aircraft and ROHR to support the Future Subsonic Demonstrator Risk Reduction Activities program, according to award notices posted Monday on SAM.gov.

NASA is seeking technologies capable of facilitating subsonic transportation while meeting its aviation sustainability, environmental, noise reduction, efficiency and cost objectives.

In a statement of objectives, the agency noted that a next-generation single-aisle transport vision system could include tube and wing configuration, truss braced wing and lifting wing-body configuration concepts.
