Five companies have been awarded contracts to help NASA identify strategies to reduce the risk and cost of a potential future demonstration of subsonic transport aircraft technologies.
NASA is seeking technologies capable of facilitating subsonic transportation while meeting its aviation sustainability, environmental, noise reduction, efficiency and cost objectives.
In a statement of objectives, the agency noted that a next-generation single-aisle transport vision system could include tube and wing configuration, truss braced wing and lifting wing-body configuration concepts.
