Deloitte Report: Digitization, Adaptive Workplaces Key Trends in 2020 Government Operations

Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights has released a report stating that trends such as digitization and adaptive workplaces became prevalent over the past year.

The Government Trends 2021 report, published Thursday, found that governments have accelerated the use of cloud, artificial intelligence and digital identity concepts while also driving efforts to promote inclusion and diversity in public policy.

According to the company, governments have also shifted focus on establishing a digital workforce, scaling the infrastructure, maximizing the use of data, assessing cyberattacks, and securing the trust of constituents through anti-information manipulation programs.

“New programs were rolled out seemingly overnight, and at a massive scale. Government is usually associated with incremental change, but 2020 was a year of discontinuity,” the report states. “The shifts we saw in government operations reflect the dramatic changes happening in the world at large.”

The company used research and survey data for its report, which tackles global government operations rather than policy-related issues.

Authors include William Eggers, executive director of Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights; Beth McGrath, global leader for government and public services industry business; and Mike Canning, consulting government and public services leader.
