General Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) information technology business and Universal Technology have won positions on a potential eight-year, $46.6 million contract to help the U.S. Air Force research and develop manufacturing technology.
The Defense Departmentsaid Wednesday the two companies will provide R&D services for the Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies program that aims to address a gap between military production requirements and private sector capabilities.
The Air Force Research Laboratory will obligate $10, 000 to GDIT from fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds and allocate $2 million to Universal Technology from fiscal 2015 procurement funds.
Work will take place at the companies’ respective facilities in Virginia and Ohio through Sept. 30, 2024.
DoD noted the service branch received three bids for the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract via a competitive acquisition process.
The Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies program, led by the manufacturing and industrial technologies division of AFRL’s materials and manufacturing directorate, aims to boost industrial systems and meet military manufacturing requirements.
