Skot Butler, vice president of satellite networks and space services at Intelsat General — a U.S. subsidiary of the Luxembourg-based satellite services provider — has been promoted to president.
His promotion is effective April 4 and he will succeed Kay Sears, who is leaving the company after a 10-year career there, Intelsat said Thursday.
“[Butler] has a deep understanding of the current and long-term needs of our government customers and takes great pride in the mission critical work we do on their behalf all around the world, ” noted Intelsat CEO Stephen Spengler.
Butler joined the company in 2006 after he directed business development initiatives at DRS Technologies‘ satellite services business group Spacelink.

Prior to DRS, he served in sales and BD positions at Verestar‘s government services unit.
Space News reports Sears, a 2016 Wash100 recipient, will leave Intelsat General to become the head of business development at the space systems segment of Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT).
The 25-year satcom industry veteran has led the McLean, Virginia-based Intelsat subsidiary since 2008.
The report said Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Lockheed’s space systems segment, announced Sears’ move to the company in an internal memo obtained by Space News.
