The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Monday the proposed deal covers equipment and services related to Japan’s indigenous HVGP capability. This includes services supporting test preparations, tests and transportation, as well as coordination meetings in the United States and Japan.
The Asian nation intends to strengthen its national defense against existing and emerging threats. The potential FMS deal, in particular, will provide defense capabilities to Japan’s remote islands. Furthermore, the possible sale is meant to enhance Japan’s national security, which aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.
The DSCA notified Congress of the proposed sale Monday.
