The State Department has cleared Egypt’s two foreign military sales requests worth approximately $929 million combined to provide AN/TPS-78 long-range radars, COMBATSS-21 combat management systems to support the fast missile craft modernization effort and related equipment and support services.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday it has notified Congress of the proposed FMS deals.
Fast Missile Craft Modernization
Lockheed Martin and L3Harris Technologies will serve as principal contractors in the proposed $625 million deal to modernize four fast missile craft by providing four COMBATSS-21 systems.
The proposed sale also includes air and surface surveillance radars; chaff decoy systems; electronic warfare systems; electro-optical/infrared sensor systems; navigation data distribution systems; communications intelligence systems; fire control radar systems; 76 mm gun upgrades; and program and logistics support.
With the FMC modernization effort, Egypt seeks to improve its naval force’s tactical and operational capabilities to meet existing and future threats and support strategic maritime security objectives.
AN/TPS-78 Long Range Radar
The proposed $304 million sale of AN/TPS-78 long-range radar turnkey systems, KIV-78 cryptographic devices, GPS devices with selective availability anti-spoofing modules, software, spare and repair parts and other equipment to Egypt will enable the Middle Eastern country to enhance its ability to detect various aerial threats.
Northrop Grumman will serve as the principal vendor in the proposed FMS deal, which also covers personnel training and training equipment, government and contractor engineering, technical, program support and logistics support services.
