HII has completed the acquisition of a South Carolina-based metal fabricator as part of a push to expand its shipbuilding capacity.
The company said Monday the acquired facility will support the production of nuclear-powered submarine modules and aircraft carrier structures for U.S. Navy programs.
Following the transaction, HII has commenced work at its Newport News Shipbuilding-Charleston Operations site in South Carolina.
In December, HII agreed to acquire the assets and workforce of South Carolina-based complex metal fabricator W International.
Since the announcement, more than 99 percent of legacy personnel have accepted offers to continue their work at the Goose Creek, South Carolina-based site, which now operates under Newport News Shipbuilding.
HII said it intends to generate hundreds of additional jobs to meet the increased demand at its Charleston facility.

In addition to trained talent, the shipbuilding company will gain access to advanced production facilities equipped with new manufacturing equipment, infrastructure and tooling, as well as barge and rail transportation.
