Notably, he served as company commander in combat operations in Iraq, scout platoon leader in Bosnia-Herzgovinia and director for all logistical operations for Brigade Combat Teams during deployments to Kosovo and Iraq.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Sims was also a deputy director to a senior executive service director in the Communications, Electronic, Research and Engineering Center in the Army Materiel Command.
