The U.S. Air Force has awarded Boeing’s (NYSE: BA) defense business segment a potential $7.48 billion contract for Joint Direct Attack Munitions, JDAM tail kits, spares, repair and technical support services.
The Department of Defense said Friday Boeing Defense, Space and Security will also supply Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition sensor kits under the sole-source, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
The vendor will perform work at its St. Louis-based facility through the end of February 2030.
JDAM is a guidance kit designed to convert unguided bombs into precision-guided “smart” munitions. It can be used on the U.S. Navy’s fighter-attack planes and its tail section comes with a GPS and an inertial navigational system, enhancing the accuracy of the bombs in any weather condition
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center will obligate $228.2 million in Navy funds, operation and maintenance funds, research, development, test and evaluation funds, foreign military sales and procurement funds between fiscal year 2022 and FY 2024.
