CGI Federal’s Steve Sousa: AI Integration Could Enable Federal Health Agencies to Enhance Patient Care, Drive Innovation

Steve Sousa, senior vice president of health and social services at CGI’s (NYSE: GIB) federal arm, said integrating artificial intelligence technologies provides federal health care agencies with opportunities to improve patient outcomes by harnessing the power of big data to enhance decision-making, streamlining administrative processes and revolutionizing diagnostics.

In a blog post published Wednesday, Sousa wrote that in order to realize the benefits that AI offers, federal health agencies should address the challenges associated with data privacy and security, interoperability and ethical considerations.

As agencies weigh AI-related opportunities and initiatives needed to overcome such challenges, the CGI Federal executive noted that they should consider certain benefits of the technology, including the ability of AI to analyze large datasets, which could lead to improved diagnoses and treatment plans.

Sousa cited how AI-based predictive analytics could help federal agencies advance resource optimization and how AI technology promotes research and innovation.

“AI fosters a culture of innovation by providing tools for advanced research and development. Federal healthcare agencies can leverage AI to accelerate medical breakthroughs, enhance drug discovery processes and contribute to the advancement of medical science,” he added.
