State Department Clears $1.5B Stryker Combat Vehicle Sale to Bulgaria

Bulgaria has secured U.S. State Department approval to procure 183 General Dynamics-built (NYSE: GD) Stryker armored fighting vehicles under a potential $1.5 billion foreign military sales agreement.

General Dynamics Land Systems will serve as the principal contractor on the proposed FMS deal that includes infantry carrier vehicles; ICV – Dragoon; engineer squad vehicles; command vehicles; medical evacuation vehicles; and nuclear, biological and chemical reconnaissance vehicles, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.

Bulgaria also asked to procure .50 caliber machine guns, smoke grenade launchers, radios, communications equipment, remote weapon systems, radar, receivers and spare parts.

DSCA noted that Bulgaria will use the combat vehicles and associated equipment to boost homeland defense and deter regional threats.

If the transaction pushed through, it would require the assignment of 20 Stryker contractor representatives to Bulgaria for 24 months to perform training, contractor logistics support and component assembly support.
