Gary Barlet, former chief information officer at the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General, has been appointed federal field chief technology officer at cybersecurity software provider Illumio.
He will be responsible for helping bring Illumio’s microsegmentation approach to federal agencies in support of the government’s zero trust architecture implementation goals, Illumio said Tuesday.
As CIO of the USPS OIG, Barlet led the implementation of an information technology and security infrastructure for more than 1,200 agency users across 105 sites.
He also helped the agency migrate to the cloud and build a pandemic relief fund management website.
Barlet previously held technology leadership roles at the U.S. Air Force and concluded his career there after serving as cyber operations officer.
California-based Illumio offers a portfolio of security products the company designed to help its customers avoid breaches across data center and cloud computing systems.
