James “Hondo” Geurts, formerly assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition, has been named to the advisory board of the Silicon Valley Defense Group.
“I am excited to join the SVDG team as the organization continues to bridge the gap between the Department of Defense and the technology community,” Geurts, a previous Wash100 Award winner, said in a statement published Wednesday.
SDVG in a nonprofit organization that seeks to drive the digital transformation of the defense industrial base and identify innovation sources for national security.
Geurts retired from government service in August after more than three decades of acquisition and leadership experience in the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and U.S. Special Operations Command. Prior to his retirement, he performed the duties of undersecretary of the Navy.
He managed an annual budget of $148 billion for acquisition, research, development, production, contracting and sustainment efforts during his time as the Navy’s acquisition executive.
“Hondo brings a wealth of experience and knows the innovation challenges faced by the DoD firsthand,” said SVDG Executive Director Sam Gray.
