Executive Mosaic’s GovCon Index traded lower Monday on declines by large and middle-tier prime contractors as U.S. stocks showed mixed results after biotechnology gains lifted the Nasdaq composite index to an all-time record close and utilities weighed on the S&P 500 composite index.GovCon Index laggards outnumbered gainers by an 9-to-1 ratio and all 11 of its S&P 500 companies closed in red with Harris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) the largest decliner among companies in both indices.
Military shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) closed as the GCI’s worst net performer for a second consecutive session and has traded down 2.61 percent over the previous two days.
Second-lowest Harris and Huntington Ingalls both fell at least $2.00 and six other GCI stocks shed $1.00 or more Monday: General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA), Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL),  Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC), L3 Technologies (NYSE: LLL) and ManTech International (Nasdaq: MANT).
ICF (Nasdaq: ICFI) and Maximus (NYSE: MMS) ended as the GCI’s lone two net gainers.
Monday started the first full week of trading after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays as investors looked forward to fourth quarter and full-year earnings reports from blue chip companies.
Energy closed as the S&P 500’s lowest-performing sector out of seven decliners with information technology the lead gainer among the remaining four.
Crude oil futures in New York settled down 3.76 percent to $51.96 per barrel to send energy and utility stocks down 1 percent each.
